Side income, marked out first

Mark the holes before you stitch: planning a week with side work

How to find the hours you really have before you commit to any side job.

Most side work goes wrong not because the work is hard, but because it was squeezed into hours that were never free.

Map one ordinary week

  1. Write down work, travel, sleep, meals, family time and chores.
  2. Mark what is left. Be honest about energy, not just the clock.
  3. Pick the blocks where you could focus for at least an hour.

Leave a margin

Plan to use only about two thirds of the free blocks you found. The rest absorbs late messages, revisions and the weeks when your main job runs over.

Test for a month

Keep the plan for four weeks, then review: did the side work fit, or did it push into sleep and rest? Adjust the hours before adding more.
